Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback), her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. In fear of stress, her parents were not keen to let the actress pursue acting until turning age 18. Perry, who was too shy to be a part of the theater in her high school, started to act in theater classes at Northwestern University because she wanted to meet new people. Following her graduation, Perry relocated in New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts on series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent but homesickness brought the actress back to California and she was able to find acting jobs. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. The show was directed by Eugene O'Neill. Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was staged in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry appeared in nine episodes of The Family, an ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. Perry was a regular character in the ABC political drama Scandal which starred her father. That same year she appeared as a younger character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother in a youthful version. Despite her family link to the character she received the role through an audition.
